Moving on

So, yeah, this summer… that was a thing. Hampton and I both ended the spring with some killer shows and then it was all, well, life as usual. Snuggly puppies, tv, and lots of other people’s recipes. I may be in the midst of books 99 and 100 of the year, but there have been a lot I haven’t finished over the past few months.

So, here we are.

To note:

I’m in rehearsals… again! As Judy in 9 to 5… again! We open… uh, well, tomorrow, technically. Tonight we’ll have a pay-what-you-will preview audience for final dress. You’re welcome for all the notice. I *love* this show. From the girl power to the Dolly music to a bigass ensemble, it’s just a dang delight. Judy is one of my favorite roles I’ve ever played, and I’m so grateful to try again nine years later.

Also, I recently did a staged reading of a film script. The author is a prof at UNCSA, his wife is in 9 to 5, and they saw Hedwig this spring. I felt bad giving up time with Hampton when it’s so limited right now, but then while I was debating, he said yes to a reading of Oedipus Rex with my Hedwig director so… hashtag balance or something.

And when it comes to getting experiences because you know people: I have also started rehearsals for a show *at* UNCSA. I’ll get into those details later (hopefully?), but tickets are here for now.

Food wise, we have had so many wins. And the occasional… attempt. But especially of recent note, this duck recipe with legs from our local butcher. Also recently, Hampton was invited to a professional sportsball game a night I had off rehearsal so I got thismuch closer to recreating my fave dish from solo dinners in DC at a place that no longer exists. It was a glorious night off on multiple levels.

Book wise, I was recently approved for an ARC by Kristin Hannah on NetGalley. It’s 100% living up to her past hype and I keep rationing it because it’s So. Good. Also: this was a recent Libby app impulse read and all the white lady thriller goodness… with a lead of color, which was a fun change up.

And, of course: the puppies. As snuggly to us and as jerky to everyone else as per usual.

What else… adult ballet has started back for the season. They added an intermediate class, which our teacher said before he moved that I could totally take — but I think he overestimated. Trying the beginner class with the new director of the prep school on Monday to see if that’s a better fit so I can focus on technique vs. trying to get my aging brain to remember quick combinations. We’re not doing our usual Halloween murder mystery because the venue is shaking things up, but Hampton is doing a few with the aforementioned Hedwig director. I’m about to finish an old favorite strength training cycle and am excited to find a new challenge — while also looking forward to alllllll the seasonal fall cooking and catching up on tv (hashtag why I exercise).

Back in a bit. Theoretically.
