What I did on my summer vacation.

If you saw Disaster recently and took the time to scan the QR code in the program to read the bios and then cut and paste the URL in my bio — my apologies. I promised you’d find here everything we cook for dinner and I haven’t even updated the weekly meal calendar on the fridge since July 9.

Life was nearly back to normal this week, and with just one more proper onstage performance, an audition, a cabaret event, and a murder mystery before we head to Japan (for those reading for awhile — hi, Melinda — I really will share Vietnam highlights eventually), I’m looking forward to a cozy autumn keeping up here with my online diary. Which has had a bit of a facelift, if you hadn’t noticed. BRB, adding “WordPress genius” to my résumé.

Some On Brand summery highlights:

🍴: Flat 493 cooked its first teres major the other day thanks to — who else — Smoke City Meats.

🥃: All the singing = So. Much. Tea. We did open a bottle of TJ’s new Platinum label Stag’s Leap with that steak, though.

🐶: Old Man George is still Georging around at 16 and a half. He’s moving slowly and on a twice-daily doggie nsaid, and we’re soaking up all the time we can with him.

Libby and Raspberry continue to be crazy little rescue chihuahuas. Raz is getting into her senior years, theoretically, but still as angry as ever, and Libbydog might be a permanent puppy.

📚: I am soooooo behind on my reading average for the year. Here is hoping two sets of two-day travel will help next month. There is a clear standout for the best book read thus far, however: Everything Was Beautiful and Nothing Hurt by Ben Reeves is the sort of book that reminds me I will never attempt to write one. I’ll let the publishers give you a synopsis in that link above and just say it is so perfectly lovely, and so perfectly heartbreaking. As Saint Dolly said in Steel Magnolias, “laughter through tears is my favorite emotion.”

🎭: Since May — Fantasticks, Hedwig take 3, Annwig, Disaster, Hedwig variation 5 at TPPA. Remember when I said I was only going to do two or three shows a year, because I definitely do. And yet…
