Whoops.

🍴highlights of the last two weeks:

TJ’s frozen miso cod (we just defrosted our freezer and in pulling everything out, I realized we have four on hand, they’re that good) with a take on this snap pea salad.

Crab orzotto with a garlic wine sauce. No, you didn’t realize you didn’t have enough risotto rice before you started this recipe.

Pistachio-crusted NC rainbow trout with whipped feta (fish from Sea Products, whipped feta from TJ’s bc we weren’t bothering making our own), crispy spuds, and cucumber.

Veal scallopini with a creamy lemon sauce over capellini with roasted Brussels. (And apparently no pic which is fine because with most of these platings, I should have skipped pics and let the meals look better in your imagination. They were all delicious, however.)

Flat 493’s first attempt at Chicken Kiev — Hampton’s dad’s “fancy” meal — with brown rice medley and green beans. We cooked this comforty dinner after finishing the end of Hacks. Au revoir (and do pobachennya) to this dark, hilarious, and feels-inducing show.

🥃: it’s been all rehearsal tea and water — including just taking a liter of seltzer with grapefruit bitters to Hampton’s sister’s Independence Day event.

🐶: Our old man has been having tummy troubles in his crate so… we decided to stop crating all of them. So far, so good! …we did have to move one of the floor beds, however.

Also — general snuggs, as per uzuh.

📚: happy pub date to one of my favorite indie authors, E. Denise Billups, and her second Beauford Grove book, The Blight. I was, admittedly, late on my ARC reading (again, but Denise is always kind!), but once I started, I couldn’t stop. Such a world built around a rich history with characters that are so easy to care for I was stressed out a LOT bc I had no idea how things would resolve. Such a good read, and I can’t wait for book three!

Blood Relay by Devon Mihesuah was another good recent read, a very intense police procedural with a focus on MMIWR. Perry Antelope and company are such incredibly strong women, physically and mentally. As much as I love a white lady thriller, more marginalized voices sharing their own stories, please and thank you.

🎭: Rehearsals continue for Disaster with my favorite group, TPAC. I love getting to carpool with my dear Brandon and Ethan (from Hedwig and the murder mysteries and life in general), and the rest of the cast is pretty dang strong, as well.
