On Brand – 31 May 26

🍴:

Mon – Burgers. Bacon. Fries. Salad. ‘Merica.

Tues – pork tenderloin with a port wine/mushroom pan sauce, pan-roasted potatoes, salad

Wed – Japanese Beef and Cabbage with Mentsuyu served on soba noodles from the newest Food & Wine. Hampton nailed it!

Thurs – I went from jazz class to working on choreo with Ethan, so a protein bar and apple, basically.

Fri – TJ’s corn and burrata ravioli with the good olive oil, Red Wine Vinegar, and fresh basil. Salad ots.

Sat – grilled pork chops, zucchini, red bell pepper, mushrooms, and corn on the cob

Sun – fried chicken sammies with yet another attempt at baked sweet potato fries (one day I’ll learn) and salad

🥃: remembered how great Fresca is when someone was looking for a no-booze, no-sugar, no-caffeine beverage. It feels so fancy and grown up to have as much of it as I like stocked in the fridge.

🐶: sent by Hampton when I was at work on one of his days off.

Yes, that’s my pillow.

📚: oh, man, the two books I finished this week were so good, I would write a proper blog post if I weren’t so crazed this weekend.

  • Mad Mabel, Sally Hepworth. Ug, people suck. I spent a great deal of this book raging at the injustices to which young Mabel was subjected to. And just as much time laughing out loud. And a wee bit of crying. After the darkness of Darling Girls, it was a welcome relief to see Hepworth show off her comedic chops while still spinning one of her usual twisty yarns. Lovely characters and well-spooled story across both timelines.
  • In Case I Go Missing, R.N. Swann. I am, admittedly, a grown adult with a soft spot for YA thrillers but oooooooh, this is one of the very best I have read.. I must join the scores of people who can’t believe this is a debut novel; Swann’s characters were so fleshed out and the twists so well laid out, it’s like they’ve been publishing for years. And, as a small town girl myself, the atmosphere was just as compelling as the characters. In my NetGalley review I mention that I was supposed to start cleaning an hour and thirty-eight minutes earlier, but I HAD to finish this ASAP!

🎭:

We finally got to jam out with everyone all together this week! So pumped to have Sorta Spooky and one of the most booked accompanists in the Triad as The Angry Inch this year.

Brandon and Ethan have put in so much work revamping the show this year. We got a new script from the rights company, there are new costumes and choreo, the new band, AND a two-level set like Ethan always dreamed of — even if it doesn’t have a trap door — thanks to the previous show in the space. It’s going to be marvelous.
