📚: still behind on my average for the year, but two fun ones this week —

  • Manitou, Glen Gabel. I really enjoyed Gabel’s The Soothsayer. This… was nothing like that.
I love a good monster tale and this one was perfectly descriptive and gory. It’s easy to care about the well-written characters, and while I do wish more of the good guys had survived, caring about their deaths proves the strength of the writing.
  • Burn the Kingdom Down, Addie Thornley.
Romantasy is not usually my favorite genre, but this one sounded interesting enough to give it a shot. It did take me a little bit to get into it, but once I did, I flew through the rest. Indira’s confusion was palpable and while her decisions were sometimes frustrating, they felt real, which made her easy to cheer for. By the time of the climax and all the whiplashing reveals, I was hooked. Very enjoyable.

🎭: The Fantasticks with TPAC officially closed, and we got into week 2 of Hedwig & The Angry Inch rehearsals — including my first on-book stumble through as the lady herself. I definitely prefer my usual role, but it’s a good challenge.

Also, as mentioned above, UNCSA’s Prep Dance and Community Music School are offering a four-week jazz series again. I couldn’t make the first two, so the director told me just to drop in for the last two. So much fun! Fayth is a fantastic instructor and it’s a very laidback vibe with lots of laughs. I can’t get a video to embed, but we worked on this if you want click through to see why we kept having fun laughing at ourselves. Spirit fingers!
