On Brand – 29 June 25

Late this time for the best of reasons — new rehearsals! (scroll down for details 🤗)

🍴:

Mon – Sautéed Chicken à la Ronsard. Pretty sure I’ve never made a sauce that was strained? So easy/fancy/French brasserie at home.

Tues – SCM bavette with pan-roasted duck fat potatoes and attempt at these feta-bakes brussels. As per usual lately, I’m not sure what happened, but these sides ended up less than exciting. At least it’s hard to go wrong with quality, local beef. (Hashtag not an ad)

Wed – enchiladas are always a great way to use up the previous week’s carnitas.

Thurs – one of Hampton’s dearest friends did has been coming over once a week for WNBA viewing. This week, she brought pizza, which got me to a bubble bath and reading in bed with the pups that much faster.

Fri – za’atar-spiced grilled chicken thighs with olive rice, whipped feta, and cucumber salad inspired by a Pin I didn’t realize was paywalled when I saved it but thanks, Flat 493 pantry.

Sat – leftover steak with mushroom sauce and a sad attempt at pan-fried potatoes, arugula salad

Sun – Prosecco butter poached colossal tiger shrimp to use up some of the bread I made for lunches this week, garden salad

🥃: we finally tried N/A Corona — and even Hampton is enjoying it to space out his regular beers. Still looking for a new house white since TJ’s cancelled my fave, but these are at least crisp and refreshing.

🐶:

A screenshot from Hampton — because while it’s not one of our chihuahuas in the picture, it is both in spirit.

📚: One of the newsletters I’ve been enjoying has introduced me to fine artists I never would have met. It also brought me The Art Spy, by Michelle Young. Rose Valland was an overworked and under appreciated curator in Paris who was responsible for tracking Nazi-looted art and repatriating it after WWII as well as keeping many other pieces safe from their grubby little Aryan hands. Rose was modest about her accomplishments but her story should be shared far and wide.

As an aside, you might assume I would love to be mysterious and dramatic and much-acclaimed writer of white lady thrillers, but if I were given the time and money to research craft in-depth narrative non-fiction, I would be the happiest little nerd.

🎭: I have played a Croatian drag queen, teenagers well into my late 30s, and even a couple of types of extraterrestrial in one show. But now I am about to take on my most difficult acting challenge of all: a woman desperate for a baby.

Did not think this would be how I finally made my Triad Pride Acting Company debut, but here we are!

More later, but for now, tix here.
