On Brand – 14 Dec 25

🍴:

Mon – rehearsal and dance class were both cancelled due to the threat of ice, so instead of random dinners, we bumped up a meal planned for later in the week. Good thing, bc this crunchy brown butter carrot gratin did take a while. Totally worth it, served with pork tenderloin, mash, and peas.

Too bad Hampton, on his Friday, slept through it.

Tues – basicass ground pork taco Tuesday for a rehearsal night. As per usual, there were Rancho Gordos, at least.

Wed – Frito Mistoish thanks to some frozen fried seafood. With tinned smoked mussels, pan-roasted potatoes, and oven-roasted Brussels.

Thurs – Garlic Butter Chicken Thighs with rice and…. well, I neither wrote down what green, vegetal thing, nor did I take a picture. I think frozen green beans? Three nights of green beans in a row sounds odd, but the next two were much fancier, or at least fresh.

Fri – a new Smoke City Meats cut for us, ranch steaks, with house mash (plenty of horseradish pub cheese) and these super extra green beans I’ve wanted to try since the magazine came in. Going to be putting Parmesan vinaigrette on everything now.

Sat – Rosemary Garlic and Pistachio Crusted Rack Of Lamb with Roasted Delicata Squash with Maple Brown Butter and Whipped Feta and much simplier green beans.

Sun – a Mystery Men gig meant fast food on the way home. But two earlier church gigs in King did mean I got my fave non-Winston Thai green curry.

🥃: My other favorite Lessons & Carols tradition? Getting a Virgin Mary up the block from the church between Thai food and a walk (thanks to this cold snap, that walk was in Wal-Mart today).

I realized recently that it takes me forever to drink V8 at home, but, duh, I should keep it at work for breakfast.

Didn’t think what that would look like out of a recent impulse mug buy…

Hashtag blood of my enemies out of their skulls. But Chip is not my enemy!

🐶:

Libby was very excited about an icy work-from-home morning.

📚: I finally got to read Krysten Ritter’s second novel, Retreat. Director, writer, actor of two of my fave tv characters; she is just too dang cool.

Also in the midst of a British white lady thriller that I snagged on NetGalley through a publisher’s email blast before I got an offer as someone who has liked their imprint in the past. Two pushes meant it had to be moved to the top of the list, and, luckily, it’s everything I could ask for so far.

🎭: As mentioned had a SEAGULL rehearsal cancelled and the last UNCSA adult jazz class postponed due to potential ice on Monday, but still a busy week of Chekov and Lessons & Carols rehearsals.

Today I had two church services and then raced to a murder mystery gig. This next week has even more. Tis the season.

“Choir Robes and Crinolines” is my new band name.
