On Brand – 19 Oct 25

🍴:

Mon – grilled calamari and pan-roasted potatoes with leftover miso-pistachio romesco, salad

Tues – grilled chicken thighs with roasted sweet potatoes and lemony green beans. This may be my new favorite way to deal with the small potatoes we get from TJ’s.

Wed – NY strip, roasted butternut squash with salsa macha and mimolette (as inspired by a salad we had at Rolf & Daughters years ago, thanks to TJ’s now carrying the cheese), salad

Thurs – crispy gnocchi with Italian sausage and Brussels sprouts with a maple/ACV vin. My first time actually getting crispy gnocchi, and the Smoke City sausage was perfection.

Fri – pulled pork sandwiches from the Instant Pot, with a Hampton-steined clean-the-fridge sauce, baked beans, salad

Sat – the best catering we have ever had at murder mystery — short ribs (?) with chunky red-skinned mash, carrots and green beans, and a super good red wine sauce

Sun – spaghetti squash with lobster Alfredo, salad

🥃: our murder mystery Saturday night was at Dynamis Estate Wines, and their Mountain blend is the best NC wine we have ever tasted. Of course, one bottle cost more than an individual murder mystery salary, sooooo…

🐶:

It’s hard to tell, but she’s on an angle in a little blanket hammock, complete with pillow that was my bookrest. No one is ever as comfortable as the Libbydog.

📚: despite the pic above, show prep led to lack of reading — but book number #100 for the year and a pub date shoutout are coming next week. Check back Sunday! …or, you know, sometime…

🎭: as mentioned — we had a murder mystery! It was in a massive mansion on the vineyard with stunning views on top of a mountain. I had to drive separately and did have a concern or two about Paula Proctor the Prius’ abilities, and my own, as my windshield wiper fluid ran out as I was driving west at sunset. We all survived! Well, all but one of us (;

I had to drive separately because of rehearsal for a “staged reading” the next day. I use quotes because yes, we had iPads in hand, but also choreography and multiple costume changes. It was an experience and I am so glad to have had it with my fabulous castmates and director, all friends, all extremely good workers with a boatload of talent. Things were a bit stressful, especially given that over half of the original cast had to bow out, but there was zero drama and lots of laughter. Including from the audience! We did our job!

Now, did I do my blogger job and take any pictures other than the above of costume #6? Of course not. That’s why there are fives of you reading this. Much appreciated.
