On Brand – 20 July 25

🍴:

Mon – There were tiny toasts leftover from a crostini bar at a work event last week, so we topped some with shaved beef we simmered in a delicious MacGyvered up leftover bean broth (or “beanjuhs”, as we like to say, a la Baby Billy), topped with spme Swiss cheese, and a horseradish crème fraîche. Air-fried Brussels on the side (to drench in more horseradish crème fraîche.)

Tues – Jennifer Garner’s spatchcock chicken on the grill with potatoes tossed into the pan, salad

Wed – crispy prosciutto and grilled corn salad with Parmesan vinaigrette

Thurs – burgers at Small Batch during a friend’s happy hour

Fri – paprika chicken thighs with olive/walnut relish, pan-roasted potatoes, green beans with lemon and feta

Sat – maiale al latte (milk-braised pork), with fried polenta and arugula salad

Sun – shrimp pasta with white wine/garlic/sage cream sauce — topped with lemon sage breadcrumbs bc pastas almost always need toasty breadcrumbs; arugula salad

🥃: looking forward to a big update here next week after my Cauldron Creations tea arrives!

📚: Another week with two pub days for ARCs I read earlier this spring.

  • The Lake Escape, Jamie Day — Oh, much fun. Perfect white lady thriller for reading by the pool or, you know, beside a lake. Just enough breadcrumbs to follow through the twists. Julia’s internal Instagram captions made me laugh, and I was so mad at Christian, I gave my completely innocent husband a couple of dirty looks until he asked what he did wrong 😂 Day is now a go-to author for me, for sure
  • Out of the Fog, Alison Lyle — Well, Alison Lyle’s bio says she writes fast, twisty tales, and that “fast” is no joke. I was not planning to finish this in one sitting but I had to keep going. It’s all very frantic and disorienting — in a vg way. I almost feel like I’ve been gaslit myself. Will be looking for more from Lyle for sure.

🎭: continuing to learn all the musics for Baby and the concert I’m in of Chris Rayis originals immediately after it closes.
