One of my favorite parts of working with the Phoenix Theatre Co. is that it’s a motley crew of good performers. The exact group may shift a bit from show to show based on schedules and character needs, but everyone is always both committed to the work and to having a good time.
Case in point: last night, we rehearsed two upcoming murder mysteries, one that’s a redux of a show we first did at Halloween, but with an actress change, and one that’s brand new — and being done to celebrate the wedding of our fearless leader to a man she met doing one of these very same shows! Jessica bought pizza and beer (and we rehearsed in my apartment complex’s clubhouse, which is always handy), there was much laughter and merriment, AND we got our work done. Because #professionals.
The show that we’re redoing for a public audience at the end of the month is set in a 1920s speakeasy. My husband, Hampton, plays an Irish mobster, I’m a tambourine-thumping evangelist, and we also have a fading silent movie star, a prize-winning reporter, a young hot shot pilot, and the newest exotic It Girl of Broadway. It’s one of my favorites, and we’ll be performing at Rock of Ages Winery. The ticket includes dinner, and more details can be found here.
