On Brand – 5 April 26

🍴:

Mon – Hampton had bought pita for his lunches so we did Greekish burgers in pita with tzatzik and olives, fried Brussels ots.

Tues – TJ’s umami butter chicken with potatoes and asparagus. Why have we not tried this before. So tasty!

Wed – I had a late meeting before choir rehearsal so I grazed all day and Hampton took himself out.

Thurs – grilled chicken thighs with cauliflower purée (florets leftover from last week’s steaks) and roasted Brussels.

Fri – gnocchi with kale and mushrooms in a goat cheese sauce topped with crispy prosciutto.

Sat –

Baby’s first successful pork roulade. Why do more people not recommend rolling from the short edge — and/or why did I never figure that out on my own? No onions, sub wild rice and rando dried spice blends.

Instead of roasting it on potatoes, since we had similar potatoes planned for the next day, Hampton deglazed the pan with ACV to make a dressing for a raw shaved Brussels and random lone endive salad with the end of a bag of candied pecans and shaved parm.

Sun –

Tried something different for Easter since Hampton doesn’t love the tiny lamb chops I do. I tried this Jamie Oliver recipe and have a few ideas for next time. First of all, the potatoes got way too crispy, and while I was getting them out, I guess some fat dripped on the stove floor and the whole house smoked up. Luckily not enough to set off an alarm. For once.

But also, the mint sauce would be better blended for my texture preferences. And the vinegar in it may have been responsible for the wine we were excited for being mid.

Tomorrow we are trying a redux. Stay tuned!

🥃: Crozes-Hermitage syrahs are supposed to be perfect with lamb. The one we had for Easter was… until the vinegary mint sauce. I switched to a white and we saved the rest of the bottle for the leftovers. Stay tuned part two!

🐶:

Tiny lady dogs were fighting over the king sized bed… meanwhile, this loaf.

📚: Lisa Jackson continues to be a solid Libby choice. Close to Home was the perfect weekend white lady thriller.

Continuing to fix my NetGalley ratio, Most Likely to Murder was a dang delight along the lines of Karen McManus, who I always appreciate — and completely different from another book I read from the author and also loved.

I accepted a while ago I was probably the same age or maybe a little older than the parents of most YA protagonists these days — but when it was pointed out that the uncle of the lead dude wasn’t even alive in the ‘80s, that may have hurt a little. Still loved the book!

🎭: rehearsals every weeknight for two different gigs makes me very glad I don’t actually work the gig life.
