On Brand – 29 March 26

🍴:

Mon – Hampton wanted to do burgers tomorrow after we both had 6 p.m. events downtown, so he suggested a veg meal for the night before. We made this lentil and beet salad with some sautéed mushrooms and braised endive. Earthy, tangy, hearty, and no meat was missed.

Tues – he was right, Barcelona burgers were the perfect easy dinner since we were already in the area.

Wed – this recipe still hasn’t convinced me that sheet pan chicken thighs are a better idea than stovetop cooking them, and we’ll definitely adapt it for crispier skin in the future. Bc we will totally be doing this two sauce-sensation again. More raw fennel and charred green veg salads.

Thurs – we attempted to adapt this to bake some shrimp with a Latin flair, along with rice, black beans, tostones, and fresh mango. The technique wasn’t a success for us, but it was all quite tasty.

Fri – Hampton suggested another veg meal and I did not argue. He requested cauliflower steaks on the grill…. but we watched too much tv during happy hour and it started to rain. So we did them inside. I was inspired by this with lemon in the marinade subbing for the herbs for some Penzey’s Resist one of his coworkers gifted him. Steaks went on a charred fennel, flageolet bean, and kale purée with grilled asparagus OTS.

Sat – the rain brought a massive temp drop. We still had half a pack of Italian sausages and my timing was TBD after a matinee (more on that below) so we went with a simple gnocchi/sausage/kale skillet inspired by this.

Sun – my timing was TBD after a second weekend matinee, so Hampton decided to make basic turkey tacos. It was a good, simple choice, especially with one of his signature slaws.

🥃: I don’t love pumpkin spice drinks, but I finally tried the one The Cauldron Creations packed in my subscription box last fall and now I’m mad I didn’t try it sooner.

🐶:

I was ready to go to bed but couldn’t move ‘til the old man did.

📚: Reading too many books at once and finishing none of them.

🎭: Every other Sunday afternoon, for the past several, my stage wife/son and I have seen a variety of performances. We doubled it up this week starting with a Saturday mat of Sister Act at CTG (also with his actual husband and other friends including our Mimi from Rent there) with the stellar directing team of Justin and Gretchen (also from our Rent there), and featuring the other Justin and Shanice (give you three guesses when we worked with them and the first two don’t count).

Available for all your Collins, Roger, Mrs. Jefferson, Mimi, and Maureen needs.

Today, we saw Gretchen in Piedmont Opera’s Carmen. It was the first actual full-length classical opera I have ever seen… despite the multiple musicals I have done with the company whoops. V grateful for the opportunity to have perfect cheap seats for such outstanding voices and will not wait another 40-something years before the next one.
