On Brand – 8 March 26

🍴:

Mon – Cabbage and White Bean Soup with Crispy Prosciutto, inspired by this, but with sambal oelek bc we’re out of harissa and some leftover tomato sauce bc ew chunky tomatoes.

Tues – sushi bowls inspired by a recipe in the new Food & Wine that made Hampton admit TJ’s has a newish imitation crab — or as I now know I can call it and sound way fancier, kani.

Wed – we had only ever been to Machete once and now twice in five days! Tasting menus are always a little squiffy because of my various aversions, but this one sounded safe enough and it was all So. Good.

Thurs – It was a gorgeous night for grilling so we finally did this salad I’ve been thinking of — ish. Since I forgot to ask for mint and left the cucumber at work — and a SCM NY strip, plus some red bell pepper.

Fri – bigass salads with buffalo chicken tenders

Sat – Hampton decided it had been too long since he made bouillabaisse, and who was I to argue. He mainly riffed on this and I will be dreaming about the rouille and bread for weeks.

Sun – Dutch oven roast chicken with potatoes in a creamy sauce with salad. I used a combination of two recipes and the skin didn’t get crispy and the sauce broke. A few ice cubes perked it up a bit, and the chicken was pretty darn tasty, but still not sharing the recipes ‘til I figure it out.

🥃: all of the wines at the Alsatian wine dinner Wednesday were a delight, but an amber from Mélanie Pfister was my favorite.

I may or may not have suggested “Melanie Pfeister” be my name in the new Mystery Men show Brandon is currently writing.

🐶:

Everyone loves a rainy Sunday.

📚: highlights this week were another well-researched Glenn Cooper historical/religious fiction adventure and Arturo Pérez-Reverte’s The Final Problem, an homage to Sherlock Holmes and the golden age of Hollywood. Both had wonderful location descriptions and I need a Mediterranean holiday as soon as possible, please and thank you.

🎭: Remember that time last week when I said I was taking a break before Hedwig: take 3? ….welp, that *was* the plan. But when you get a request from a theatre you love and you feel guilty from getting the cold from hell on them last summer… I’m so glad I said yes, because I’ll be playing with one of my favorite people; these are going to be some of the fiercest duet lines ever heard in an oft-performed classic musical. Details as soon as the company announces!

Also, Ethan and I took some promo shots for said Hedwig. Tix for the regular show are available now, with the one-night-onlies coming, again, once the venue announces.
