🍴:
Mon – TJ’s frozen miso cod with tempura green beans, sweet potato, red bell pepper, and mushrooms, plus salad.
Tues – burgers with red sauce, pesto, and fresh mozz with a bottle of barolo as inspired by an email from a restaurant we’ve never been to (but from the same people who had the one where we got married).
Wed – cheese ravioli in a pancetta cream sauce with peas
Thurs – kuku paku, an African chicken curry, with sautéed bell pepper and zucchini… and garlic naan for sopping up the sauce. Hashtag fusion?
Fri – seeing a show in Greensboro was a great excuse for Machete. My favorites were a chilled golden beet dish with whipped goat cheese, caramelized walnuts, and a lime vinaigrette; a steamed winter squash with with hazelnuts, brown butter, and another fancy, tangy cheese; and baby back ribs with a Granny Smith mole, radish, and lime.
Sat – we used some of the garlic naan from earlier this week to make flatbreads with ready-to-eat gyro meat from TJ’s, leftover portobello slices and feta from a work event, and a sauce with leftover cucumber from the same event. Simple salad OTS.
Sun – fish tacos with the end of a pack of frozen branzino, slaw, and avocado, with rice and beans
🥃: for our fancy dinner out, we ordered a bottle of a new-to-me wine, susumaniello. Hampton recommended not having a sip with the tangy beets, but it was perfection with everything else, especially the duck confit cannelloni.
🐶: George turned 16! Celebrations included snuggs from Libby.

📚: One of my favorite should-be-more-well-known authors, E. Denise Billups shared a new short story in her newsletter and it was my reading highlight of the week. Learn more about her here.
🎭: no performing this weekend meant having a chance to see All The Shows. First up was Triad Pride Performing Arts’ “Broadway Our Way: Yessssssssssss, Queen”. My schedule has never allowed me to see one of their BOWs, so I thought they were just genderbent cabarets. Nope. While a revue, there was a whole fun plot with a great message, besides the fantastic singing.
Even Hampton, with his limited musical theatre knowledge had a blast. It helped that a theatre friend sat behind us — and it didn’t at all hurt that his +1 saw my first CARRIE and made me feel like a celebrity 💁♀️
Saturday afternoon I went to see UNCSA Drama’s Cyrano de Bergerac, a neat modern adaptation told in verse. It was staged in the round and was very appealing to the eyes and the ears.
Sunday’s matinee was Winter Dance, also at UNCSA. The first half progressed from a very traditional piece, to a quirky story about a hoity toity party — with a murder — to a very cool contemporary piece. Contemporary proper made up the second half, two high-energy pieces that ended with a dance party complete with pulling people up from the audience. There were a couple little kids in the front row who were a delight to watch, especially when they got to be a part of the show.
