On Brand – 15 Feb 26

🍴:

Mon – this was a calendared total rot day to recover from all the Seagull dramatics and the cast/Super Bowl/birthday party. Neither of us ended up drinking very much at said party, but we stuck to the script and ordered Papa John’s. Plus leftover boneless wings and crudités also from said party.

Tues – Barcelona Burger Bar before a Mystery Men rehearsal.

Wed – we went downtown to support people who supported The Seagull at a show and beforehand finally got to Pleasant’s Provisions, a new restaurant and market from the dude who ran our fave restaurant a while back (RIP, Honey Pot) and was our butcher. I was, admittedly, a little afraid that there would be too many onions and cilantro based on descriptions, but everything we had was deeeelicous. My fave was the steak tartare, but the GM, a neighborhood friend, said it’s about to rotate off. Looking very much forward to going back and seeing what Matt does next, and it was great to see him and another guy who used to work for SCM.

Thurs – surf ‘n’ turf for Hampton’s birthday feat., of course, Smoke City Meats (even without Matt and Clay) sirloin, Whole Foods sale lobster (why we can’t quit Prime), house mash (frozen from TJ’s with horseradish pub cheese), and faux wedges with TJ’s tiny icebergs.

Fri – we grabbed Sushi Empire from Lesser Known to take to a private murder mystery gig. We won’t talk about how Alexa got us lost on the way to the show. Or how I tried to put show contacts in and dropped one on the bar floor and wasn’t even having a beer. We *will* talk about how the truck didn’t have poke bowls on their V-Day menu, but they made me for me anyway.

Sat – the plan was something healthy I ended up not being in the mood for. Accidentally conveniently, I didn’t realize a new TJ’s product was frozen, not fresh, and needed to be thawed over night. We cleaned the fridge with this instead. Plus some frozen peas because I was also not in the mood to make salad.

Sun – another MMP gig at Radar meant I had a big lunch while erranding after yoga and then grazed all day while Hampton grabbed Side Chicks food truck at the bar.

🥃: the new Two Wolves drop was on Hampton’s birthday! And I didn’t have to set an alarm for the middle of the night like I did last February in Vietnam! And I nearly forgot because I had just barely gotten back to work after an event when it happened! But even though I logged in 90 mins late, I still got our allotment! *whew*

Also, thanks to castmate Leah for Hampton’s birthday bottle of Widow Jane.

🐶:

What is happening.

📚: for Valentine’s Day, my work had a “Blind Date with a Book”. I couldn’t not pick up this one, because sub mountains for country, it’s exactly the summary of The Seagull, down to “….a comedy!”

Conveniently, it was a white lady thriller, and yes, yes I did read it all Saturday afternoon instead of doing chores.

🎭: Thursday, I had the wonderful opportunity to judge the performing arts piece of an artist showcase for Kintura properties. I was most impressed by one of the dances that was choreographed in chairs with black-lit pool noodles for a group that included assisted living folks. Dance is for everyone! Nevermind that my own ballet class almost made me cry on Saturday!

As mentioned above, we had two Mystery Men shows this weekend. My character was a cat lady which… may be the most acting I have done after Baby this summer where my character was desperate for a baby.

We are going back to the Buffalo Speakeasy with MMP next week — that one may be my favorite just because the audience was so delighted by my ridiculous character.

Also, while I was at Well•Spring on Thursday, I saw an ad for my concert there next month. Very excited to revisit the songs of Chris Rayis for a take 2 of the show we did last August.
